Why Choose a Resin Driveway?
It Drains. Properly.
No puddles by the front door, no ice forming in sheets during winter, and no surface water running off towards your neighbour’s property. SuDS compliant.
Minimal Upkeep
A sweep now and then, the occasional rinse with a pressure washer on a fan setting, and that’s largely it. No open joints for seeds to settle into.
Built to Last
A well-installed resin bound driveway will comfortably see 15 to 25 years of service. UV stable resin won’t yellow or fade.
150+ Colour Blends
From understated greys and warm sandstone tones through to bolder mixes. We bring sample boards to every survey.
Safer Underfoot
Textured finish provides decent traction even in wet weather. Natural grip without making the surface rough.
Adds Value
Estate agents put the uplift at 5-10% of property value for a well-finished driveway. One of the most cost-effective improvements.
No Planning Permission
Resin bound driveways are SuDS compliant. In most cases, you will not need planning permission — even for large driveways.
Fixed-Price Quotes
No follow-up sales call, no time-limited discount. We give you a fixed price after the survey with a full breakdown.
What Exactly Is a Resin Driveway?
A resin driveway is a mixture of natural stone aggregate and a clear polyurethane resin, laid over a prepared base. The aggregate does the visual work. The resin binds it together into a solid, even surface.
Resin Bound — our most popular system. Resin and aggregate are mixed together before being trowelled onto the base. The stones are coated and pressed together, creating a flat, stable surface with tiny gaps that make it permeable. Rainwater passes through into the sub-base below. SuDS compliant, so you don’t normally need planning permission.
Resin Bonded — a layer of resin is spread across the base and aggregate is scattered on top. Rougher, gravel-like texture. Not permeable, so areas over 5 m² will likely need planning permission. For driveways, we nearly always recommend resin bound.
“The team at Urban Stone transformed our tired old driveway into a beautiful resin entrance that has completely changed the look of our home. Their attention to detail was impressive, and the finished result exceeded our expectations. From the first survey through to the final finish, everything was professional and on time.”

How We Install Your Resin Driveway
Our process hasn’t changed much since we started in 2008, because it works. Every stage matters.
01
Site Survey & Quotation
We visit the property, assess the existing surface, check drainage, and discuss colour and finish preferences. You’ll leave with a fixed-price quotation.
02
Groundwork & Base Prep
Excavation, compaction, new sub-base or repairs. Edge restraints and drainage falls set. Groundwork typically takes one to three days.
03
Priming
We prime the base before laying resin to improve the bond and reduce the risk of lifting or delaminating. A step some installers skip. We don’t.
04
Mixing & Laying
Resin and aggregate measured and mixed on site, trowelled to 18 mm depth. For a typical two-car driveway (40-50 m²), laying takes one to two days.
05
Curing
Foot traffic fine after 24-48 hours. Vehicles stay off for three to five days depending on product and weather. We’ll confirm exact timings.

Your driveway is complete. We provide full aftercare guidance. Product-backed guarantees included with every installation.
Family-Run Excellence Since 2008
We’ve been doing this since 2008. That’s over 15 years of laying resin, and we’ve learnt what works and what doesn’t. We’re a family-run business, which in practice means you’ll deal with the same people from your first phone call through to the day we finish on site.
We use UV-stable resins and dried aggregates from established UK suppliers, including DALTEX and Vuba — products we’ve tested over hundreds of installations and trust to perform in British conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a resin bound driveway?
A resin bound driveway is a mixture of natural stone aggregate and clear polyurethane resin, laid over a prepared base. The aggregate and resin are mixed together before being trowelled onto the base, creating a smooth, permeable surface. Because the stones are coated and pressed together, rainwater drains through naturally — making it SuDS compliant and usually exempt from planning permission.
Do I need planning permission for a resin driveway?
Because resin bound driveways are permeable, they are SuDS compliant under the General Permitted Development Order. In most cases, you will not need planning permission — even for large driveways. Exceptions may apply if your property is listed, sits within a conservation area, or if you need a new dropped kerb. We check all of this at the survey stage.
How long does installation take?
For a typical two-car driveway (40-50 m²), the full process takes around 2-4 days. Groundwork and base preparation takes one to three days, and laying the resin surface takes one to two days. Foot traffic is fine after 24-48 hours; vehicles should stay off for three to five days.
How much does a resin bound driveway cost?
Resin bound driveways typically cost between £60-£120 per m², depending on the size of the area, the condition of the existing surface, the aggregate you choose, and whether groundwork or drainage work is needed. We provide a fixed-price quotation after the site survey with a full breakdown. We don’t charge for the survey or the quote.
How long will a resin driveway last?
A well-installed resin bound driveway will comfortably see 15 to 25 years of service. The UV-stable resin won’t yellow or fade. We use resins and aggregates from trusted UK suppliers including DALTEX and Vuba, tested over hundreds of installations to perform in British weather conditions.
What's the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?
Resin bound: aggregate and resin are mixed together before being trowelled onto the base. Creates a flat, permeable surface. SuDS compliant, no planning permission normally needed. This is what we install most often.
Resin bonded: resin is spread on the base and aggregate scattered on top. Rougher texture, not permeable. Areas over 5 m² usually need planning permission. Better suited to smaller decorative features than working driveways.
When might resin not be the right choice?
If the ground is persistently waterlogged, if there’s evidence of subsidence, or if the existing base is so badly damaged that repair costs outweigh the benefits, we’ll say so. Resin is also designed for light vehicle traffic — cars and vans. If you’re regularly parking heavy commercial vehicles or skips on the drive, a different surface may be more appropriate.
